Gabe Gilsrud was fine with working for someone else. But when an unmistakable opportunity presented itself, he took the leap into the world of the entrepreneur.
Gilsrud is owner of Best Built Construction LLC, a Princeton, Minnesota builder of detached garage and storage buildings. A veteran of the garage construction industry with years of experience in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, Gilsrud had the chance to hire an entire team of garage construction tradesmen when they left another local firm.
"I have a terrific team, one that brings 35 years' worth of building experience to each garage we build," he says. "Our customer service is beyond compare."

The Best Built philosophy is straightforward: the company will build you a 22-by-22-foot detached garage within two weeks of breaking ground.
"We work on only one garage at a time, so when you hire us, you're getting our A team until the job is done," Gilsrud says.
"We don't hop from job to job like a lot of other companies. With the tradesmen we have working for us, most of our garages are 4-day jobs."
Best Built Construction has considerable experience building detached garages that are accessible through an alley.
"Those jobs can be turned around very quickly when you have that kind of access," he says.

Garage builder rooted in Twin Cities history -- and its future
Best Built Construction launched in 2008, just as the recession was tightening its grip. But with a year's worth of projects in its portfolio, the company is poised to expand.
Gilsrud has an added incentive to see Best Built Construction dominate detached garage construction in the Twin Cities. He and his growing family live in an 1865 home in suburban Princeton built and occupied by his ancestors. Just two doors up the street stands a much larger historic home, also built in the 19th century by Gilsrud's forebears.
"The Great Depression claimed the place at some point, and the family had to move into the smaller home we now live in," he says. "I sure would like to be able to take that big house back for my family again some day!"
